Meet the People Behind UTraining
We're a small team — and that's deliberate. It means you get personal service from people who know your business, fast decisions from the people who run the business, and genuine relationships built on trust, not transactions. Here's who you'll be working with.

Darren Bain
Managing Director & Founder
Darren founded UTraining Limited in 2018 with a clear purpose: to change how training is delivered. Not box-ticking. Not generic programmes. Real training that makes a real difference — for people, teams, and communities across the North East.
As Managing Director, Darren leads the business strategy, oversees programme quality, and personally manages client relationships. He's currently leading UTraining's bid for the Tees Valley Combined Authority Adult Skills Fund — a commitment to expanding access to quality training across the region.
Darren's approach is hands-on. He's the person you speak to when you first get in touch, the person who shapes your training plan, and the person who picks up the phone when you need support. His ideal workday? Engaging with clients, delivering great service, and genuinely enjoying the work — and that's exactly what he does.

Our Approach
Being small isn't a limitation. It's the reason our clients come back. When you work with UTraining, you get the things that big training providers struggle to deliver — personal service, fast decisions, and a genuine partner who knows your business.
You Deal With Decision-Makers
When you call UTraining, you don't get passed around. You speak to Darren — the person who founded the business, sets the strategy, and makes the decisions. No waiting for approval from someone you've never met. No account manager who doesn't know your situation. Just straight answers from someone who can act on them.
Personal Service
We're small enough to know your business. Not just your name — your processes, your challenges, your people, your goals. Every training programme we deliver is shaped around your specific workplace, not pulled off a shelf. That's the difference between training that ticks a box and training that changes how your team works.
Fast Responses
No layers. No committees. No three-week turnaround on a simple question. When you need something — a change to a programme, an additional session, a conversation about progress — you get it quickly. Small team means short lines of communication. It's that simple.
Genuine Relationships
75% of our business comes from repeat clients. That's not by accident. We invest in relationships, not transactions. We're interested in what happens after the training — whether it actually made a difference, whether your team is better equipped, whether the outcomes you needed were achieved. That's the kind of partner we are.
We Know Your Business
Our training isn't generic. It's built around your processes, your equipment, your standards, and your people. We take the time to understand your workplace before we design a programme — so what we deliver fits what you actually do, not what a textbook says you should do.
Qualifications & Standards
Properly Qualified. Properly Quality-Assured.
We're a small team — but we're held to the same standards as the biggest training providers in the region. Every member of our team meets the qualifications and quality assurance requirements that matter. These aren't badges we've collected for marketing. They're the systems that make sure your training is delivered properly, every time

growing the team
Building for the Future
UTraining is small now — but we're building for growth. We currently support 60 active learners with a full-time tutor/assessor, and our capacity extends to 200. As we approach that capacity, we'll be recruiting new tutors and assessors directly from industry — bringing real-world experience into the training room.
Where We Are Now
-
Team size: 1-3 people
-
Tutors/assessors: 1 full-time, supporting 60 learners
-
Trainer-to-learner ratio: 1:40
-
Active learners: 58 across manufacturing, processing, and academic sectors
-
Capacity: 200 learners
Where We're Heading
When we reach capacity, we'll recruit new tutors and assessors from industry — people with hands-on experience in manufacturing, construction, processing, and related sectors. We're looking for experienced professionals who can bring real workplace knowledge into training, not just teaching qualifications.
We're also building our compliance matrix to ensure every team member meets all requirements for delivering partnership-funded training — including teaching, assessment, and internal quality assurance qualifications, sector-specific experience, CPD, DBS checks, safeguarding, Prevent duty, and IAG certifications.
Looking for Experienced Tutors or Assessors
-
We're always interested in speaking with experienced tutors and assessors who share our values — practical, workplace-focused training delivered with genuine care for outcomes.
-
If that sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you.
our story
Why UTraining Exists

UTraining was founded in 2018 by Darren Bain — not to be another training provider, but to change how training is delivered.
The problem was simple: too much training was generic, theoretical, and disconnected from the workplace it was supposed to improve. Providers delivered programmes. Learners attended. Certificates were issued. But nothing actually changed.
Darren believed there was a better way. Training that's built around the employer's processes. Training that's delivered face-to-face, in the workplace, by people who understand the sector. Training that focuses on measurable impact — better quality, better productivity, better performance — not just attendance and completion rates.
That's what UTraining does today. From a base in Newcastle, we work with employers across the North East — manufacturing, processing, construction, and beyond — delivering training that translates into real workplace improvement. We're not the biggest training provider in the region, and that's not the point. The point is training that works. Delivered by people who care.
Since 2018, we've supported hundreds of learners, built a 95% completion and achievement rate, earned an 85% learner satisfaction score, and kept 75% of our clients coming back. We operate carbon-neutral, we're quality-assured by Matrix Standard, Cyber Essentials Plus, and Disability Confident, and we're accredited by NCFE, EAL, and IASSC.
But the story isn't about the numbers. It's about the difference training makes — for people, teams, and communities. That's why we started. That's why we're still here.
